Weihui Lu is a multidisciplinary artist based in Queens, New York. Through ephemeral and site-specific installations, her practice explores relationality, the ecological histories and imagined futures of place, and the psychological dimensions of the modern landscape.
Her work has been exhibited at Wave Hill (2026), Tempest Gallery (2025), the Steinberg Museum of Art (2025), Tiger Strikes Asteroid NY (2024), and the Venice Architecture Biennale (2021), among others. Lu has participated in residencies at the Ellis-Beauregard Foundation, MASS MoCA, Wave Hill Winter Workspace, I-Park Foundation, Marble House Project, and Santa Fe Art Institute, and has received grants from the Queens Council on the Arts, NYFA, and the Milton and Sally Avery Arts Foundation. Her work has been featured in Hyperallergic, Art Spiel, Impulse Magazine, and Li Tang. She holds a B.A. in English Literature from Barnard College and an M.F.A. in Sculpture from the Milton Avery Graduate School of the Arts at Bard College.

For In the Shadow of the Red Sun, Weihui Lu brings together a series of installation residues—hand-bound artist books, photographs, and vessels containing gathered and preserved water. Each work carries the trace of a past ephemeral action while taking on a new presence within the exhibition.
Through these quiet, minimal gestures, Lu draws distant landscapes into the gallery, from her embodied engagements with Sawkill Creek to her research into New York City’s reservoir system. Water, image, object, and archive become interconnected records of place, movement, and memory.
Together, the works resist the demands of fixed outcomes and continuous production, moving instead toward a more organic and ongoing sense of time. Process and finished work intermingle, while the boundaries between past and present, memory and lived experience, gradually become more porous.
